For 37 years, community members from Cumberland, Falmouth, North Yarmouth, and Yarmouth have come together to raise funds for affordable housing. Since its inception, the 4 Community Springtime Walk has raised over $700,000 to support Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland's mission to provide decent, affordable housing to low income families in Cumberland County.

This year, we will walk on Saturday, April 29 at a new location! We can't wait for you all to join us at Twin Brook Recreation Area in Cumberland from 9-12 for a morning of walking for Habitat!

In Support of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland partners with low-income families to provide them safe, affordable, and decent housing. This is accomplished through two primary programs. In the homeownership program, families earn a low-interest mortgage as we build them new homes from the ground up using volunteer labor. Our Critical Home Repair program provides affordable home repairs to make the client's home warmer, safe, or drier.

Sarah is a single mom of four kids. She’s been working at the same fast-food restaurant since she was 15and is now the manager! She’s excited to continue advancing there. She is the definition of a hard, determined worker.

Sarah grew up surrounded by her family in South Portland. To save money, she lived with her parents for a long time. But when her dad got sick, she knew it was best to let him heal without four energetic children around.

She bounced back and forth between her in-law’s and friends’ houses.

Finally, she found an apartment she could afford, but it’s all the way in Sanford.

It isn’t convenient. It’s not in the safest area. And her entire family, job, and life are back in South Portland.

Each morning, she gets the kids on the bus and to the babysitter. Then she drives almost an hour to work. After a long day, she drives home to feed the kids and get them ready for bed. It’s a struggle, but Sarah says, “I feel like I’m missing out if I’m not there every night.”

Soon, that will change!

Now that she’s been selected for a new home in South Portland, she’s so excited that she will have a safe and affordable place for her kids. They will grow up around family. Most importantly, they will be able to spend more time together in a home of their own.
